Tony Alsup driving rescue animals in a school bus
“I’m like, look, these are lives too,” Alsup told The Washington Post during his Waffle House stop. “Animals — especially shelter pets — they always have to take the back seat of the bus. But I’ll give them their own bus. If I have to I’ll pay for all the fuel, or even a boat, to get these dogs out of there.”
A remarkable man for helping these animals and truly a hero.
Taking my single dog to the vet in my car is stressful enough, can you imagine how much patience and focus it must have taken to drive 50+ scared animals across South Carolina? I have to mentally prepare myself for her attempting to bite other cars that get too close or a potential accident from road sickness, and there's no way she can manage it without some calming chews at least an hour before. But Tony didn't have any of that - he just had a will, a school bus, and a full tank of gas. It's amazing what a person can do when they set their mind to it.

NopeThisTropeIncredible act of compassion. I hope all the animals were reunited with their families or adopted
Packed to the gills with dogs, cats, and pets
It must have been noisy during that bus ride. Dogs howling, cats yowling, and the storm raging? This journey is not for the faint of heart, but like I said earlier, you can really do anything when you set your mind to it. And you know what? It was all worth it in the end. Those animals lived to see another day, get adopted into a family, and find their happily ever afters thanks to his kindness.

What a wonderful thing to do! This kind of act reminds me how much good is being done when our world is so fractured these days. Just seeing all those doggies faces makes me happy 😁👍
Tony Alsup getting "thank you kisses" from a dog
It’s all true - Tony swooped in at 4am Wednesday morning to pick up our “leftovers” - the dogs with blocky heads, the ones with heartworm. The ones no one else will ever take. And he got them to safety. Not the most conventional evacuation, but surely the one with the most heart.
